an ending (hopefully) to the silence…

I realize I haven’t been posting lately. I’ve found it really difficult to say what’s been going on in my head. I’ve been really stressed and down lately, so I’m not much of good social company. I’ll leave you today with a quote, more or less what I have been feeling, and hopefully soon I will return to a normal state of being:

Try as hard as we may for perfection, the net result of our labors is an amazing variety of imperfectness. We are surprised at our own versatility in being able to fail in so many different ways. ~ Samuel McChord Crothers~

updates

This has been the craziest last 10 days that I’ve had for a long time, and I don’t feel too creative right now. I feel like I’ve been going nonstop, and I’m going to keep going until Thursday. I think Thursday is the first day in a long time I don’t have to really do anything. I’m so excited! But in the meantime, here are some quick updates:

-Midterms They went well. I still have one last one on Friday, but I think I’m feeling pretty good about that one. I’ll keep you posted as to how that one goes. I passed the rest of them with flying colors. I even aced one!

-School The rest of school is going well. I was a bit frustrated in my class today when I asked my teacher for help and his only response was “Well, what do you want me to do about it?” Not so sure I handled that one too well… I did get my schedule for next quarter classes. I finally get to take a photojournalism class! I’m way excited about that. I also have a few other photography classes, and then a drawing class and spanish. Yeah, not so excited about those last two.

-Home Other than school and homework I’ve been keeping busy. Darren’s fraternity had their 10 year reunion banquet last weekend and that was fun to go to. (10 year reunion of them being on the CU campus, not 10 years since he’s been there, just to clarify.) He also surprised me with tickets to the film festival. We saw a series of shorts. They were pretty good. Only one I really didn’t like. At least it was the shortest one. Work is, well, we won’t even talk about it. On an higher note, I’m throwing a girls night, and so far I have a great turn out! I’ve never really been able to pull one off before. I hope it goes well.

I’m excited that Thanksgiving is next weekend. I feel like I haven’t seen my nephew forever. He’s getting so big now – 7 months old already. It’ll be good to see the family. Then it’s December already, filled with present buying, finals, and finally Christmas in Durango with my (2nd) true love!

odd things that happened today

1. Walking out from lunch with Jess and Jamie at The Old Spaghetti Factory, and older man (probably mid-60’s) walked into the the restaurant (10 minutes after they closed, mind you) and asked if it was too late to be seated and grab a quick lunch. When the waiter said he’d have to go ask his manager, the man’s only reply was (speaking sheepishly with a slight pout) “Ohh, I just wanted a little spaghetti.” I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pee my pants from laughing so hard, or feel bad for the guy since he didn’t get his spaghetti.

2. Jess helped me do a shoot on location today with a large format camera (a big honking camera/equipment to lug around in case you’ve never seen one) and when we finally go there, we couldn’t get the tripod setup. A screw was missing that was needed to fit the camera onto the tripod. After walking all the way back to the school, and up again to the 9th floor to where I checked it out from, I was told the screw was there, it just had a secret hiding place. Of course, this secret hiding place was in plain sight. So much for being smart.

3. I finally got a bunch of work done since I’ve been behind lately and thought since I got done a little early, I would get started on my homework for class tomorrow so D and I could go out tonight. I got all setup to work on some images, only to find out I did them last week in class. Boy, there’s another smart move for ya. At least I’m a little ahead of the game then, eh?

November 1. Wow. This year has gone by so fast. Seems like just yesterday D and I were happy to celebrate our first New Years Eve as a married couple… if you remember, Mr. Deer tried to help us celebrate by giving us a reason to get a new grill on our oh-so-cool-grandma-mobile, but inevitably he had to go to the big cloud in the sky. Then my birthday in February. That was fun. Any birthday filled with sushi, games and friends has got to be good. Then in March, I had the most laid back St. Patty’s day I’ve ever had. We were just getting into LOST (trying to catch up for the season finale!) and ended up staying home watching LOST instead of going out like every other civilized person in the world. Then in April I became an aunt again! My sister had a baby boy, so my mom and I went and spent 10 days with her. May was a busy month making last minute preparations to move to the city. June was spent settling into our new TINY apartment (ok, so it’s not that bad, but compared to the 1100 square feet plus a two car garage and yard we had before, it was tiny. Boy were we spoiled…) July, my classes started and kept me busy and out of trouble for a while. August I went back to Durango for my friend Sam’s wedding. It was great to get to see everyone for a while.  September, we had my grandparents come visit us and we took them to a Rockies game since my grandpa’s birthday was the end of August. October was just crazy busy. I started my second quarter of school, had a women’s retreat for church, started to actually make friends (yipee!) and I also found a sushi buddy!

Now it’s November. We’ll have Thanksgiving with my family, but grandparent-less. My grandpa is now an official Santa. He was placed in a mall to work for 6 weeks this season in Cleavland, Ohio. My grandma is going with him and they are really excited. December, I’ll have finals, then we are going to Durango for a week at Christmas to spend with D’s parents. I hear that the years never get any slower. Maybe I should then just move somewhere where it’s warm all year round…
