drug busts and ice cream

so, i didn’t actually have any ice cream, but my apartment building did make the news tonight.

or rather, the hotel across the street did, and my apartment building just made it in the pictures.

there apparently has been a several month long investigation here in Denver about a drug/prostitution ring.
they (meaning about 25 – no joke!- cop cars, a ambulence or two, and a swat team) made a bust tonight. (Click here for the full story.) it says they went into the raid with about 50 warrents for arrest, but only have 5 guys in custody. i’m sure the others, now tipped off, are going to be in hiding for a while.

here is the pic my building made it in:

my building is the building on the left. and yes, we saw it the appropriate time to go walk Lucy to see what was going on. (even though we never walk her together…) and sadly enough, even though we were directly across the street from all the action, we had to rely on my mom to watch the news and let us know what is going on. having our nice tv at the repair shop is just no fun right now.

in other news, i was hit by a car on sunday – as a pedestrian. don’t worry- i’m ok, but i’ll have more on that later. maybe after i talk to the lawyers.

lucy [doesn't] snorkel?

i went to the store today. i had a dream last night for the greatest (or so maybe only in my mind)
photo shoot ever. i’m going to do a beach scene with a few pails and sand shovels, and
i’m going to use my snorkel gear, too.

lucy, however, couldn’t understand what my snorkel gear was, and kept trying sniff it.
so, naturally i decided to put it on her and see what she thought.

she didn’t enjoy it much. she was eager to get it off and was pretty comatose until i finally removed it.

i guess she won’t be going snorkeling with us anytime soon…

the tale of the retarded strawberry

i decided that for a snack today, i’d make a nice, healthy smoothie.

what i found instead was a retarded strawberry.

or a strawberry on steroids. i’m not exactly sure which…

no joke. this sucker is one whole strawberry. i decided to keep it around for a bit longer, instead of feeding it to the blender blades.
i know that if i don’t keep it, darren will never believe me.

i also tried to work on my homework today…
i believe the key word here is “TRY”
hehe. i cannot draw. see?

drawing.jpg

so pathetic, in fact, i even covered it up with the pens.
you definitely won’t be seeing my drawings in a museum any time soon. at least not
pictures/drawings of me crosshatching. what you really don’t want to see is my attempt
at my own self portrait. now there is a picture that will make you laugh.

español es cojo.

i think i failed my spanish prueba today.

spanish-book.jpg

ok, maybe not that bad, but if it’s anything like the homework, i definitely should not live in mexico.

it is a little strange, though. i’m the only one in my class that isn’t graduating in the next 3 quarters.
so, of course
when we had to break into groups today based on our
‘field of study’
everyone was like, ‘who are you? i’ve never seen you before?’

right. everyone else knows each other, because they’ve had classes together.

not me. so even though i’m doing a presentation with these people, i’m not sure how well i’m going to do.
they know tons more than me. in fact, they were quite shocked to find out i was only 3rd quarter.

crazy, huh?

whatever. get it over with now, and i’ll never have to worry about it again.

in the mean time, should i have pizza or grilled cheese and tomato soup for supper?

Hmmmm….

so much for staying on top of things.
i’ve pretty much been absent the last month.  i’d vow to change that,
but i have a feeling that with this quarter, i’d be setting myself up for
failure.

i suppose a set of updates are in order:

school: good, but definitely going to be a tough quarter.
i’m enjoying it so far…

except for the spanish part.

i’m taking a lot of cool classes, including photojournalism and another studio class.
(i’ll have more posted HERE in the next few weeks if you want to stay updated with that.)

holidays: christmas was spent in durango, a nice long relaxing vacation.
i couldn’t have asked for more. it was good, but also good to get
home.

new years was spent in denver with some friends. most of whom i didn’t know.
i suppose it was good to meet new people, but  in reality, i’ll probably never
see any of them again.

so goes life.

the weekend after new years, my sister and her husband came to spend the weekend
with us. the rest of my family came down on that sunday to do our christmas.

short, but fun.

i think sometimes maybe short and simple is better.

home front: i feel like i should give some big exciting news here, but in actuality,
we’ve actually been getting very good at the whole home-body thing.
being home is nice, a good way to relax. darren is already getting
anxious for another vacation, so i think we might try to get out of town
for a long weekend soon.

nothing definite yet.

this week has actually been kind of odd, too. not necessarily in a bad way.
just weird.

last weekend, my friend melissa and i were out shopping for one of our photo
shoots. we’re in the middle of target and i end up running into a girl i knew from
high school.

actually, she moved away after our freshman year, and i think i’ve seen her once since then.

random.

we are going to go out for drinks next weekend, tho.

then, on friday night, d and i went on a double date with one of his friends and his
girlfriend. p.f.changs and a comedy show.

good times.

but, while  i was washing up in the bathroom at dinner, a girl walks in.

normal, right?

except that she looked oddly familar. i smiled, said ‘hello’ and went on my merry way.

only as i was walking back to the table did i realize i also went to high school with her.
only this girl wasn’t so nice to me. she was in the so-called ‘in crowd.’ really, one of those
that made my life a living
hell.

but does that even matter anymore?

i  noticed she intently watched us as we left the restaurant.

awkward!

but, whatever. high school is over and done with. it’s the real world now.
