{drugs and other news}

Wow! Where has this month gone already?! Oh yeah, down the toilet… literally. I’ve been really sick lately, and it’s been kicking my butt! I’ve finally starting feeling better in the last 48 hours (I hope it sticks!) and since then, I’ve been more productive than I have been the entire year so far!

We have some friends coming into town tonight for the weekend, and that should make things fun… at the very least, keep my mind off of other things!

I also had an OB appointment this morning. It went really well, despite the fact that I’m still 7 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight. I got to hear two very healthy heartbeats, which always makes me smile. I was also cleared to discontinue use of all hormone drugs! For the first time in MONTHS, I’m living only on the hormones me and the babies are producing! Oh, it’s the little joys in life! Before I left, I got to schedule my 20 week ultrasound – which we are actually going to do at week 19! WooHoo! We are excited to make sure they are healthy and growing, and to finally find out what we are having!! So, as of March 1st, we’ll be able to start narrowing down names realistically.

On a completely different note (so sorry for the sporadicness of this post…. this is really how my brain is working these days!) I was reading a very cleverly written blog post yesterday about how to keep your house clean in 30 minutes a day. These last couple of months, I’ve done just the opposite. The house hasn’t been clean at all! (Thankfully that changed yesterday and today and I can now breathe much easier!) Anyway, it’s written from her perspective as a mom, trying to fit in these daily chores. Definitely a good read. Go here to read the post.

A couple of weeks ago, Darren brought in a couple of things from storage for the nursery. One of these things is a mesh bag of all the stuffed animals we kept from out childhoods. It’s just been sitting in the room for a while, and bugging me, but today I decided to go through it.

Among these things were my baby blanket, and a doll my great grandma used after she went to live in the nursing home. When she died, my grandma gave a couple things to me and a couple things to my sister. One of the things I got was her baby doll and a blanket she used to keep it warm. The blanket is actually in great condition, and I’m sure the babies will appreciate it and get good use out of it! The doll might come in handy, too, especially if we have a girl.

I was also excited about having a couple of regular teddy bears. Nothing special, but soft and cuddly. Among them was even the build-a-bear I made for Darren one year (which he hated, but kept anyway – maybe for the kiddos one day??) and a penguin I got after my first knee surgery.

But, by far, my favorite thing I found in the bag was something that came from Darren’s childhood. I’ve seen it before, several times, but I always manage to forget about it. I’m not sure when he got it, but it’s pretty old. And awesome. So yes, even if we have boys, they’ll have a doll to play with. I mean, who doesn’t love a Cabbage Patch Mr. T????

The News

Sorry for the radio silence, guys. It was hard not to be online a lot, but it was much needed time. So finally, the news for everyone…

We’re Pregnant!!!  WITH TWINS!

Yes, you read that right. We’re pregnant with TWINS. Slightly overwhelming and a little daunting to think about, but we are so excited and can’t be happier! I’ll try to be diligent about updating. I want to make sure to document as much as possible, as this may be our only pregnancy. However, as of lately, I’ve been really sick (bah! morning sickness!) and now, on top of that, I have a nice cold to go along with it. So needless to say, I haven’t been feeling the greatest. BUT, I know there is light at the end of the tunnel, and by the end, it will have been so worth it.

We were ecstatic when we found out! We were pregnant! It worked! We celebrated with chocolate cake and then called family to let them know, since we knew they were sitting on pins and needles. Then we waited. I can’t imagine what it would feel like if we had to wait for weeks and weeks for that first ultrasound, but we only had to wait for 2 1/2 weeks, which felt like forever to us. Even having our first ultrasound at 6 1/2 weeks, we were still nervous. I was so afraid of doing something to ruin all the hard work we’d just gone through! When our RE got into the room and started the ultrasound, the first thing he said was, “Do you see what I see?” Um, YES! TWO sacs! That only means one thing: TWINS! We were shocked, excited, scared, and holy crap! Where are we going to put TWO babies in our tiny apartment!? Wow. The things that go through your mind.

Then we waited again. We got through Christmas, and just after Christmas, we got to go have two ultrasounds in one day: our last appointment ever at the fertility clinic, and our first appointment ever at our OB’s office. It was surreal. I was so excited that Darren took the whole day off to be with me. It was the first time we got to see the babies move! It was amazing. Both are growing at great rates, and the heartbeats were strong. We couldn’t be happier.

I’ll leave you with the ultrasound picture we got at 10 weeks 1 day. They look like babies! Baby A is on the left (head on the left) and Baby B on the right, with the exact opposite profile.
